45 people are since the 8th of June at SHIPO getting trained on the production and the productive use of the SMARTechs. The trainees come from different parts of the Southern Highlands: Njombe, Iringa, Mbeya and Songea.
The trainees are divided into 3 groups, according to their background: drillers, welders and farmers. The drillers are working on a 30 m deep borehole with SHIPO drilling method combined with jetting and digging a shallow well. The welders have already produced 2 rope pumps and are producing 4 improved hand-washing facilities. The farmers, on the other hand, are learning about organic agriculture like good agriculture practices on field preparation, weeding and nutrition and pest management in the context of sustainable farming. They are also being trained on aquaculture: production of the seed (fingerlings), construction and management of the ponds, fish feed production, etc. In both cases, horticulture and fish farming, different SMARTechs are examined as resources to carry out these activities.
