Some weeks ago the SHIPO SMART Centre team got to know the waste management system of Njombe town first hand:
we followed the collection truck together with an environmental officer around town and observed how the collection is conducted.
Once the truck was full we went to the dumpsite, where besides getting to know the site itself, we performed a waste characterization.
Our results show that around 9 thousand tonnes of waste are collected every year. Around 14 % of this waste is platic, meaning that more than 1 thousand tonnes of plastic are collected.
